Coach Khalil to Take Reins as Head Coach at Yi Sport

A Message from Coach Lee:
Passing the Torch – But Not Going Away!

I want to start by saying thank you.

You are a part of an incredible community that enriches my life beyond measure. This community has entrusted me with its children for nearly 20 years, allowing me the privilege of teaching them, nurturing them, and helping them realize their potential not just in Taekwondo but in life. This is an honor that I do not take lightly.

I also want to assure you that I am not going away. I am committed to the students at Yi Sport and will do everything in my power to make sure they continue to have the support and coaching they need to flourish.

What’s changing?

Now that I am an old, married(!) guy, I realize that the time has come for me to pass the torch on to the next generation—to someone with deep love for and commitment to your kids and to Taekwondo, who also has the youthful energy and enthusiasm that can take the school to new heights.

And so it is with the utmost pride, confidence, and delight that I announce that my son Khalil is moving into the position of Head Coach at Yi Sport. I will still be around as a mentor and substitute coach, and as the main point of contact for alumni.

Why?

Coach Khalil not only has more time and energy than I do, he is also a much more skilled and knowledgeable fighter. More importantly, his heart is in the right place—Yi Sport is in his blood, and he wants to build this community into something even greater. We would not be making this change if Coach Khalil, Coach Sara, and I didn’t think it is the best thing for the school and the kids.

What’s next?

To celebrate this transition, we will be planning a retirement party and gala to take place this winter. We will need a lot of help with this event! If you would like to be involved, please contact yisporttkd@gmail.com.

Our coaches, parents, and volunteers are also working hard to make sure that this new era at Yi Sport is even better than the last. We are creating new and improved programming and starting a leadership program that will build out our coaching pipeline and prepare youth to be strong leaders. We’re implementing more and better communications, marketing, recruiting, membership policies, and technology. AND we are preparing for a move to a new facility in 2018!

Thanks again.

Change can be unsettling. I am happy to answer any questions you may have. Please let me know if you would like to talk one on one. And again, thank you for the honor and privilege of serving you and your families as Head Coach. I am looking forward to supporting the school in a new way!!

Much love,
Coach Lee
